We are thrilled to announce that APPLE fellow Claudia Hirtenfelder has been awarded the Australian Animal Studies Association inaugural prize for “Popular Communication of Animal Studies”, alongside Dr. Brodie Evans, who won the “Early Career Researcher Prize”.
Both prizes have been made possible by a generous donation from Dr. Siobhan O’Sullivan (University of New South Wales), animal studies scholar, activist and host of the ground-breaking Knowing Animals podcast.
Claudia, a PhD candidate in the Queen’s University Department of Geography, is being recognized for her incredible work in conceiving, producing and hosting The Animal Turn podcast (and social media site), which launched in 2020 and has already become an indispensable resource for the animal studies community. And Brodie (Queensland University of Technology) is being recognized for their paper titled “Contesting and reinforcing the future of ‘meat’ through problematization: Analyzing the discourses in regulatory debates around animal cell-cultured meat”.
Congratulations both!
